For this assignment, you are going to perform an analysis of the push-up, by simply completing the grid. The push-up is separated into two movements; Phase 1 (pushing up) and Phase 2 (returning down to the floor.)
Here’s how I recommend you tackle this:
For each joint, start by identifying the motion of that joint (flexion, adduction, protraction, etc.)
From there, use Table 3-3 from the text to determine the plane and axis.
Next, determine which muscles cause this movement. Focus on the prime movers only. **Hint: Toward the end of each chapter, you will find a table that lists joint motion and the corresponding prime movers.
Lastly, determine the type of contraction used. This will be isometric, concentric, or eccentric.
Point values are shown for each joint for each category. Notice that there is a 4 point spelling bonus; it is important to be able to properly spell the terms and names of muscles. In order to receive 100 on this assignment, you need to have all answers correct and with proper spelling.
