PM 6008-8 – Assess the Occurrence and Effects of Learning Curves
Assess the Occurrence and Effects of Learning Curves

As we practice and learn actions, activities, and movements we learn to improve our efficiency and effectiveness. Learning curves provide a tool to graphically display the results of repetitive activities and actions. Learning curves are based on the idea that the more times a person performs an action, the more effective and efficient they will become. The caution will be not to overestimate the value of a learning curve paradox.

1. Review the resources listed in the Books and Resources area below to prepare for this week’s assignment(s).

2. Complete the following Spotlight on Skills if you need assistance with the tools used to complete your assignments.

Spotlight on Skills: Develop your Logical Thinking and Argumentative Skills

This week, you will be called upon to present your ideas, make arguments, and defend a point of view. All of this calls for research based evidence, as well as logical thinking skills that provide the framework for presenting this evidence. In this assignment, develop your logical thinking skills through first considering the developmental stages of your own thinking: Developing as rational persons: Viewing our development in stages. Then, review Jones, R, (2010) to learn more about what constitutes a good argument.

Assignment: Assess the Occurrence and Effects of Learning Curves (10 Points) Due: 06/12/2016

Instructions:

During your presentation on the trade-off analysis process, a question arises about the potential effect of learning curves on the project. The question is:

Will the learning curve concept have an effect of the project?

You are trying to determine and if possible define if repetitive or similar activities will be benefited from a learning curve effect. You will have to define the tasks and then determine through analysis if the learning curve effect is valid for your project. So you decide to research Learning Curve Concept to assess the concept’s effect on your project.

Formulate a paper that assesses the occurrence and effects of learning curves in the project environment. Your assessment may include topics such as the learning curve concept, the cumulative average curve, follow-up on orders, and manufacturing breaks. Be as specific as possible on the effects of the Learning Curve Concept to the project by providing examples.

Support your paper with a minimum of three (3) external resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 5-7 pages not including title and reference pages

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
