This application assignment requires you to share a newsworthy story how one course concept from Module 5 is being used in practice. The concept that you select should be related to either the race or sports book area of the casino business and must come from the required readings and/or lecture discussion.
First, please identify a casino industry current events story. Search gaming industry trade publications, Google News or the Gaming SmartBrief. Alternatively, you could use one of the articles listed on this Module’s Current Event list (see M5 on Moodle).
Once you’ve found a story you wish to use, please summarize the situation and background. Then, use your understanding of this Module’s readings and lecture notes and apply your critical thinking to the current event’s situation.
You have some flexibility on what to write about, as long as your approach shows an application of your understanding of the race and sports book area of the casino industry, as well as current events, trends and developments with respect to race and sports betting.
News story must be from a credible source within the last 4 years with appropriate citation.
Context must be provided on why the story is immediately relevant to the topics being covered.
Responses which are purely opinion and anecdotal are not considered to be substantive in nature.
Original news story from an external source plus two additional external sources required.
Assigned textbook chapters from the course do not count as external sources.
Make sure to identify your concept in the title or first sentence of your Application Assignment.
Assignment must provide only a brief summary of your work related news article to frame your discussion so that what you are discussing is clear but is not the majority of the post.
Primary focus of the assignment is not describing your story in great detail but rather meeting the relevant criteria outlined in the application assignment rubric using your work related article as the context.
