The following questions are provided to guide you in the development of your language development biography.
How did you learn language?
What have you heard about the first sounds you made?
Were you a quiet baby, a fussy baby, or did you show any specific language characteristics before you began to speak?
What was your first word (besides mama or dada) and the situation in which you used the word? Why do you think or why does your parent think it was the first.
What was the language interaction in your house: were you sung to, conversed with before you could talk, did you have family dinners, talk in the car, bedtime stories, a quiet house, how has that environment shaped you?
When you began to put words together, does anyone recall your first sentence?
Do you have any specific identifying language traits: does your voice get high when you are excited, or you become softer when you are worried, any words you use often, you use your hands to help you talk, anything distinctly YOU?
Where do you think you gathered most of your vocabulary; reading, friends, family, watching television, or what?
Was English your first language or did you transition from another language? When and how did that come about?
