Discuss fundamental components of transformational leadership and provide examples (either imagined or from research or your own work experience).

Is transformational leadership possible or even desirable in all organizations and industries? If so, why? If not, share examples of organizations or industries that you feel are not compatible with transformational leadership principles.

Part 2. Reply to the following classmate discussion in a minimum of 100 words:

“Through our reading, we understand that, transformational leadership is a process that changes and transforms individuals. Transformational leadership is being able to get people to want to change and accept assistance along the way. It includes assessing their persons motives, satisfying their needs, and valuing them. This type of leadership can improve the success of a company by simply valuing their persons.

As an example of transformational leadership, imagine a manager that completely looks over an employee of theirs crying in the parking lot, looking stressed and overwhelmed. Wouldn’t you consider that a poor example of a leader in general? In this extreme example, the manager overlooks the concerns of their employee, where a transformational leader would stop and ask what’s going on. Moving forward from the situation, whatever it may be, this type of leader would investigate how they can help develop the individual from the situation and help them to get better. It is important to invest your time into your employee’s where you can, to let them know that who they are, and what they do, matters to you and to the organization.

Transformational leadership is possible in all types of organizations, and in most cases highly encouraged. You want to be able to reach down to your employees and know that they want to be there, and they will be there, simply because they know that you as a leader want them there and need them there. Ensuring to set those boundaries with your employees of professional versus personal will be necessary in moving forward with your employee’s in their personal inquires and issues.” -Kuh N.

“The four fundamental components of transformational leadership are intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, inspirational motivation, and idealized influence. The concept behind transformational leadership is leading for tomorrow. It is possible to use transformational leadership in all industries and organizations, however, it could prove difficult to apply this leadership style in places where massive change is taking place.

In my own personal experience in aerospace, it is extremely important to keep the vision focused far enough ahead to be able to keep up with competition. For example, the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) market is thriving, and much of the technology used there was created 10-15 years ago, maybe even more. This is really where the successful UAVs out there today have been a product of transformational leadership. They kept sight of the vision. The motivation was there. People were inspired to work on and were excited to assist with improving the future. For this to work right, there also had to be great teamwork, and a good part of that would be caring for the employees and creating great relationships. So, yes, I do believe transformational leadership is being used quite often today.” – Nate H.
