A practical use of mean & standard deviation

as a research analyst for radio, use mean and standard deviation almost daily. One practical use of these concepts can be found in the comparison of ratings of radio personalities. We ask our respondents to rate personalities on a one to ten scale where one means the respondent does not like the personality at all and ten means that the respondent likes the personality a lot.

Now, suppose we looked at the results and found that Personality X had a mean rating of 5.5 and a standard deviation of 0.5 and Personality Y had a mean rating of 5.5 and a standard deviation of 2.

What might we conclude? What other analysis, if any, might you suggest in this case?
