A Renaissance Travelogue

Linked below, at the bottom of this page, are four albums on Naxos.  Choose just one track, total, to research, listen to repeatedly and in depth, and then write about for your posting.

Your main post must include;

  • Accurate Naxos static url, so the reader can click to hear your music
  • Complete title of the piece
  • Name of the composer
  • Approx. year of composition
  • Details about the piece: this is the main body of your post
  • Sacred or secular?
  • Genre of piece (kind of piece – lute song, movement from a mass, madrigal, dance movement for lute).
  • Voice: range? Male or female? Solo voice or ensemble? Are there instruments? If you can, identify the instruments or make a guess based on the instrument family.
  • Two to three musical observations based on your own listening. Pinpoint using internal track timings.
  • Fun fact? Include a brief paragraph about the piece or the composer that you found in your research.
  • Bibliography: at the end of your post, supply the urls of the web sources you used in your research. The urls should be accurate and easy for readers of your post to click to view the site or article. Limit your research to sources that your fellow students can access on the internet with no additional subscriptions or memberships.

Length: a typical passing level Main post will be about 700-800 words.

After you have finished your own main post, reply to the main post by another student.

Reply Post

Reply post must clearly interact with the information and listening linked in that other student’s main post and make a meaningful comparison with your own main post. Mention something you hear in the music using a track timing to pinpoint your observation. Compare it to the piece you selected.  Is there something similar or contrasting about the backgrounds of both composers to point out?  Share an url of a website or track of music that you think would interest the other student (find a fresh link to share, don’t just recycle your own main post track or urls).  A typical good reply post would be about 100-150 words
