African history

Think about the material related to life under colonial rule and the push for independence, then answer the following question:
Do you think that by gaining political independence, Africans opened the door to cultural liberation? Do you think they wanted to break completely from the western/European culture they were exposed to under colonialism, or do you think Africans showed the desire to develop their own post-independence culture that mixed African traditions with the European culture and values they had adapted to under colonial rule?
Your response should be in essay form and may cover some (or all) of the following points:
1. African experiences under colonial rule, which may or may not be seen as completely oppressive
2. the push for independence, which may include a discussion of why Africans were fighting for political liberation and how that might have reflected their additional desire for cultural liberation
3. post-independence trends, which may or may not be seen as a time period when Africans focused on culture liberation by breaking ties with western/European values and traditions
Your essay should have an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement, at least 2 paragraphs in the body of the essay providing evidence in support of your response, and a conclusion.
