Airport Design

— Task Description
The individual report contains two parts. In part one, you will write a report on the topic chosen by yourself with a word limit of 2000. In part two, you have been asked to write a short essay on the Airport Case (to be studied in the unit) with a word limit of 500. Both parts will be submitted at the end of the semester. The detailed requirements are as follows:

Part I. 30 Points, maximum 2000 words
You have been asked to do an individual report related to an airport related topic. You are encouraged to investigate one of the issues discussed in the class (airport terminal management and cargo logistics; airport performance evaluation; privatization and commercialization; airport regulation; multi-airport systems; airport-airline vertical arrangements etc.), but you are free to choose other topics broadly related to the airport industry too. A list of sample topics will be provided by the lecturer. A one-page proposal is due on Friday 13 Apr. You should have conducted some preliminary study on your project when submitting the proposal. The proposal itself will not be assessed, but has to be approved by the instructor. You can approach the instructor for comments and suggestions before proposal submission, and the instructor may arrange a meeting with you ONLY IF there are major problems with your proposed study plan. Otherwise your proposal will be accepted BY DEFAULT. In your report you are expected to give very specific policy/managerial recommendations, which are directly based/supported by your analysis. There is no hard rule with respect to the length of your report, but shall not exceed 2000 words (reference and appendix excluded). Therefore, please write your report clearly and concisely. The report should include the following: 1. Executive summary 2. Table of contents, 3. Body of the report, 4. Reference list,

5. Appendices (if necessary).

According to the university rules, “where a word length is specified, students must conform to the word length. Where a student exceeds the word length, the student will lose 10% of the total marks when the submission is 10% above the word length and 10% for each 10% over-length thereafter.”

Part II. 10 Points, maximum 500 words
When studying the module of Airport Privatization and Regulation, we will study a case on airport policy and regulation. You will be assigned to a category/group so that you need to come up with arguments defending a stake-holder’s view. More details will be given at the time of case study. The word limit is 500. Executive summary and table of contents are not necessary.

Both Part I and Part II shall be submitted in ONE file before the due date. A turn-it-in link will be created at Canvas for your submission.
