For this project, we will use the Seven Step Data Modeling process. Your project will be to apply this seven step process to a problem or issue in the agribusiness sector.
Step 1 – Define the problem –Select an agribusiness commodity or crop or select two publicly-traded retail companies and define a problem, issue or question you would like to answer. Define your research question narrowly enough that you can study the data and come up with an answer, but not so narrowly so as not to have enough data to work with. DISPLAY 5 CHARTS (GRAPH) IN THE REPORT, THE GRAPH SHOULD BE MADE IN AN EXCEL SHEET. THE EXCEL SHEET SHOULD BE SUBMITTED ALONG WITH THE REPORT. DATA SHOULD BE THREE YEARS PERIOD (2017-2014). REPORT AT LEAST 1000 WORDS. THIS PROJECT MAINLY IS ABOUT THE GRAPHS/CHARTS. I SUGGEST FINDING THE DATA AND MAKE THE CHARTS FIRST THEN CONSTRUCT THE REPORT.
Step 2â€â€ÂÂSelect and summarize dataâ€â€ÂÂIdentify at least one source of data that you can download and/or transpose into an excel spreadsheet. This should be a firsthand data source such as from a USDA website or CFDA or other data collection source or agency.
Step 3â€â€ÂÂDevelop a modelâ€â€ÂÂWhile you can develop a graphical, algebraic or spreadsheet model in the seven step processâ€â€ÂÂfor this project you will develop a spreadsheet and use the analytical tools we have learned in class to analyze your data and propose answers to your problems or question.  Apply the tools you have used to understand your dataset:  descriptive sstatistics, counting and categorizing data, frequency charts and histograms, scatterplots to show correlations between variables, pivot tables, filtering, etc.  Select the analytical tools that best match your data.
Step 4â€â€ÂÂVerify the modelâ€â€ÂÂtest your model with real or extreme data to make sure your analyses are valid. Check your findings with other sources to verify.
Step 5â€â€ÂÂSelect one or more suitable decisionsâ€â€ÂÂUse your model to propose the answer that applies best to your commodity or crop.
