ANNOTATED RESEARCH on the Internet

Research a literary, cultural, biographical, or historical subject in World Literature
from Units 716
(author, work, genre or period) on the Web.
Research assignment: Pick a topic to help you understand your literary & cultural subject
and
perhaps prepare to write your essay on world literature.
• Pick 3 different articles to summarize and evaluate, and post this Webliography in Module 13.
• You need a topic, and 3 articles related to it. (Vary search terms & engines as needed. Appropriate websites or webpages:
essays, reviews, history, definitions, etc. Not ‘news.’)
• Summarize and then critique in 3 entries, each entry therefore with pairs of bullets or numbered paragraphs.
• Identify also which article is the best (and which the worst), and explain why.
Submission requirements. The trick is to think of what your reader needs:
Post the results of your search for sources on your selected topic. SUBMIT THREE ENTRIES in the BODY of your
Webliography. EACH ENTRY must have (A) a COMPLETE CITATION, (B) a SUCCINCT SUMMARY (including the main topics
and ideaswith
illustrative examples), and (C) a CRITICAL ASSESSMENT of the article and webpage (including the quality of
writing, the ease and variety of uses enabled, and especially the quantity and quality of information providedOR
MISSING!).
1. First Posting: Explain what you are researching and why.
2. Next THREE POSTS: Find THREE substantial webpages (roughly the same as print articles).
1. Give a full citation (MLA format). Cite EACH of your THREE sources fully. Web addresses are NOT enough.
2. Write a thorough but succinct summary of each: summarize what is important about each webpage (and
its host website),
including specifics on the topic and how it is developed, explanation of point of view and/or purpose, the format of the
webpage, the quantity and quality of background links, and at least one distinctive example.
3. No article will be perfect, but no article should be worthless. Critique each article for its:
1. A) quality of writing [+ for example?],
2. B) quantity or quality of informativeness [+ for example?],
3. and C) ease and variety of uses [+ for example?].
3. Final Posting: Add a conclusion to your research on this topic: Which website is the best, and why? Which website is the
least helpful or informative for you in writing your term paper? Be specific, and prove your point.

Identify what subject you are exploring (including your focal play). Why is this subject interesting? What do you hope to
discover?
I chose to explore the topic, Sophoclean tragedies, with an emphasis on the focal play, Oedipus. I selected this subject
because I became fascinated with Oedipus and Antigone. I found both of these story’s plots to be stimulating and enjoyed
reading them. My goal is to broaden my knowledge of the play, as well as learn more about his themes and elements of his
tragedies as a whole.
Neatly summarize the plots, characters and themes of one play
Characters: Oedipus is king of Thebes who is thought.
