Essay 400-600 words
Pick one of the following questions and answer it, using at least three different course readings. If you write about a different topic, you will not receive any credit. You may draw from readings from outside the course, as well as lectures and documentaries. However, at minimum, the average essay will use at least three different course readings. While readings from the latter half of the course are encouraged, you may draw from any listed on the course syllabus. If you include outside sources, please include them in a bibliography. If you do not include outside sources, no bibliography is necessary. Your essay must be between 400 and 600 words, not including any bibliography of outside sources.
You must respond to one of the two prompts below, as stated. You will not get extra credit for answering both; if you do, we will only grade one of your responses.
1) Compare and contrast modern-day piracy – either hacking/hacktivism or maritime – with piracy during the Golden Age. How are their motivations and justifications similar or different?
2) Agree or disagree with the following statement: given the presence of media monopolies, the piracy of music and movies is justifiable.
