Application: Determinants and Prevention of Maternal and Child Mortality

Assignment: Application: Determinants and Prevention of Maternal and Child Mortality

Why are there so many premature deaths of women and children around the world? What are the factors behind these circumstances?

Many factors combine and intersect in helping to determine the well-being of individuals and communities. The same holds true for the health of vulnerable groups such as women and children. Comparing various countries may help determine the factors which lead to high rates of child morbidity and mortality (World Health Organization, 2014).

For this Assignment, you will explore the influences that contribute to either maternal or child death among different countries. As you review the variances among countries, consider the social, economic, and physical environments that surround these areas. Also, consider other relevant determinants of health for the countries you study.

To prepare: You will select one of the two worksheets (located in this week’s Learning Resources) of either maternal or child mortality to complete this Assignment. Proceed to research the relevant data for your worksheet by using the databases in this week’s Learning Resources.

Note: In grading every required ssignment, your Instructor uses an Assignment Rubric. Review the rubric prior to completing your Assignment.

The Assignment (1–3 pages):

Complete the worksheet by answering the questions comparing your selected countries for mortality rates.

Note: Do not use the five countries provided in the “Time Series Chart Example” document.
