The White Helmets and Generation Like. For paper 5, you will only have to write about one of the documentaries. Focus on an ethical issue that you see in one of the documentaries, and form a thesis about it.

What is the definition of an ethical issue? An ethical issue brings systems of morality and principles into conflict. Most of the conflicts we have talked about in class can be disputed with facts and objective truths; ethical issues are more subjective and open to opinions and interpretation.

The problem with ethical issues is that there is typically no universally accepted answer. If I ask the question “should capital punishment be allowed in Iowa?” or “should teachers be allowed to carry guns on campus?” we would have different answers and reasoning from each student. These ethical issues are hotly debated because the answer generally comes down to personal opinion or philosophy. Ethics can give more than one answer, and sometimes that answer is not universally correct.

People argue that things are moral or immoral, and they create an ethical debate to support their argument. Ethical guidelines can come from personal philosophy, religion and government.

For this paper, I want you to pick out an issue that is being addressed. Then, do some outside research on the topic. Form an educated opinion on it (your thesis), and then work to prove it.

Make sure not to write just a long summary of the documentary. I’ve seen it; I don’t need it to be summarized. You might find that a few lines of summary are necessary in order to get your point across; that is completely fine. Just don’t spend half of your paper describing the documentary to me.

The documentary can be found on PBS: Frontline. Just google “Frontline Generation Like.” The White Helmets can be found on Netflix; I’m sure it is elsewhere online as well.

Your paper should be two full pages long. Your third page should be your works cited page.
Paper should be typed using 12 point, Times New Roman Font.
Paper should be double spaced.
Paper should follow MLA style formatting. A good source for formatting is your book and the Purdue Owl (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resourc e/747/01/).
You will also need a Works Cited page. Again, make sure to consult your book or the Purdue Owl on how to properly make a Works Cited page.
