Others have argued that the Civil War was really the end of the American Revolution, as it finally settled the questions raised by independence. Both of these views see the roots of the conflict in the ideas of liberty, equality, and democracy. In your informed historical judgment, were the causes of the Civil War connected to the American Revolution? How and why or why not? If not, then what caused the Civil War?
