Assessment of Research Process

The intent of this practical experience is to gain understanding and knowledge based on course objectives and outcomes and present opportunity to demonstrate skills and abilities in the field of Government research and application.

Student is expected to retrieve from library resources and read the following report: Brown, M. & Hale, K. (2011). State-wide assessment of Alabama women 65+: Organizations, practices, and participant perspectives.  Final Report to the Alabama Women’s Commission. Auburn, AL: Auburn University.

Following the research process outlined in course text,

Applied Research Methods in Public & Nonprofit Organizations authored by Mitchell Brown & Kathleen Hale in 2014, student is required to lay out components in the worksheet (Figure 1.7 – Attached) for the completion of Assignment 4.

1. “Ideas and Questions,” what is the research question or problem that motivated the study?

2. “Theory Development,” identify the focus and types of literature used early in the report to describe the problems.

3. “Research Design,” summarize the design decisions made by the authors.

4. “Conducting Research,” lay out where the primary data came from and how they were collected.

5. “Data Analysis,” describe how the data were analyzed.

6. “Conclusions and Reflections,” summarize the overarching findings and implications of the study.
