Bachelor of ICT/BCIS301-AMIC700 Assessment Number 1

Bachelor of ICT/BCIS301-AMIC700 Assessment Number 1

Overview
This assessment relates to developing a hands-on understanding of planning for IT deployment, (it
includes implementation of IT projects). The assessment covers most of the competencies that have
been discussed in the first section of the course (IT deployment planning) – phases of planning,
strategic analysis, strategic evaluation, and strategic thrusts.
Two approaches (options) are considered:
– The first approach is about investigating what impacts good practice for IT deployment
planning. Students will select four cases studies (to e endorsed) and investigate (based on
data from case studies) what impacts the good practice of IT deployment.
– The second approach has an operational focus. Students use two sources (one made
available on Moodle and another IT project implementation case) to explore what could be
seen as good practice for the implementation end of IT deployment.
Phases of the assessment
1. Form teams of two students.
2. Select your case studies and seek endorsement.
3. Complete your data gathering (from the cases) and seek endorsement.
4. Complete your data analysis to prepare your report.
5. Complete your report as per instructions provided to be submitted on 4th of Mat 2018.
Note:
a) Please use the marking guide and mark your assignment.
b) Make sure that you have attached your raw data as an appendix.
Expected outcome – your report
The report needs to be compiled as a technical industry report. It is expected that a professional
industry report would include:
Introduction
The introduction is being seen as a simple project brief. I should include:
– What is the task?
– What is the purpose?
– What are you delivering and what is the use of it?
– How is your report structured?
– Any other information you see as being important to include.
How and where did you get your data? Methodology
– What are your sources of data
– How did you find them? Where from?
– Why did you select these particular sources?
– What was your approach to the analysis of data?
– Any other important issue related to the methodology you would like to present.
The main body of the report. What is the story your data presents?
Structure the main body of the report to describe what you discovered. What does your data say?
Present details and where necessary refer to the case studies or projects you studied.
The outcome
The outcome will come from the main body of the report. You have already explained your data. The
outcome will focus on the deliverable. For instance your proposed model of good practice IT
deployment planning.
The outcome should include a proposed evaluation model. More specifically, tell the readers how
they should rate a particular plan for IT deployment (if you are doing the IT deployment planning
exercise).
Conclusion, summary, reflection
Present a summary of what you did. Explain limitations. Outline what worked and what did not.
Suggest how the outcome you delivered may be improved. Explain what your contribution to the IT
community is? What is the value of your work?
How is your work marked?
Competencies assessed were outlined in the ‘overview’ section – please check.
The marking model includes criteria and the method of rating your work on given criteria. The
scoring is a simple technique that considers four categories:
– Excellent: marked either 9 or 10
– Good practice: Marked as either 7 or 8
– Acceptable but borderline: Marked as either 5 or 6
– Inadequate needs significant improvement: Marked from 0 to 4
The criteria and the relevant weighting is as follows:
