Banned and Challenged Book Presentation

PowerPoint Slides Project about children’s book

Choosing a Book

  • One book that is an ALA top challenged/banned book from 2005-Present. Please make sure you are choosing a book that is written with children or young adults in mind (for instance, Tori Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, is frequently on the list, but not a children’s book). Let me know if you need help distinguishing the appropriate books.
  • Make sure that you are choosing a book that has been challenged for a reason that you find interesting or worth discussion.

Slides:

  • Your powerpoint should include a brief synopsis of the novel, reasons that it was challenged or banned (if you can find specific instances of when/where it was challenged, that would be a plus). Then, laying out scenes and quotations from the novel that interact with the challenge, give arguments both for and against its censorship (using Philip Nel’s article [on Carmen] would be apt here). Finally, come to a conclusion about your thoughts on the novel’s challenge/ban.
