Dear Sir,
RE: Editing and Publishing “2 B R 0 2 B”
The purpose of this letter of intent is to communicate my need for editing and publishing of the story “2 B R 0 2 B”. Based on your vast experience as an editor in The Last Word Publishers Ltd, I am hoping that you will not only edit my story but also forward it to be posted in your publication. I will be developing a science fiction story where survival depends on science and sacrifice.

It is not every day that one gets an opportunity to travel into the future and visualize the world as it could be. Many writers have attempted to do this with their focus being on illustrating the possibilities of life as we do not know it yet. My story is about a future whereby aging has been cured and the main problem facing the society in population control given that there would not be deaths. As such, the government of the time, known as 2 B R 0 2 B, designs a control measure whereby for any individual who is born, another individual has to volunteer to die.

My story will be centered on the theme of survival and science. Technology is changing the world and creating new challenges. On this story, the world has struggled with survival until we have a new problem of population. Technology, especially in health, is very advanced that the death is no more. The main problem now is population surge, there are children born but nobody is dying. In the light of this new challenge, the government has enacted new laws that parents have to ensure a person dies for each of their new borns. The main character is Edward Wehling whose wife is expecting triplets at the hospital and he is looking for three individuals who can volunteer to die for the sake of his three newborns. However, he is the only person willing to die and as such is faced with the dilemma of choosing only one of the triplets to life. The other characters in the story include Dr. Hitz, the hospital’s obstetrician, Leora Duncan, from population control, and the painter. As the drama unfolds, Wehling starts to strategize who to kill amid the rising tension from Leora Duncan. Wehling works under a lot of pressure from Leora who wants to kill the children if nobody is volunteering. That is what it looks at the face of it but the history of Wehling, Leora, and Dr. Hitz enlightens us on the need to eliminate Wehling and the need to revenge that Wehling was living with. Eventually, this turns to be a personal issue among the three who react based on what happened several years ago, and a constitutional conflict at the national level. The story ends with Wehling resorting to shooting Dr. Hitz, Leora Duncan, and himself to providing room for his three children. The painter chooses to die and plans for his death after witnessing the incident.

I am a young writer with a passion for writing and transforming my audience from their everyday life to the world beyond their imagination. I believe in writing stories that will be read and experienced by hundreds and thousands of individuals not only from this generation but also from the future generations. Through your help in editing the story, I hope to make “2 B R 0 2 B” a story that will live forever and be implemented in the minds of my readers. I hope to change and foster critiques on real issues such as the costs and benefits of using technology to solve the problems in the world. Thinking about the solutions that we get today will affect our world and the future generations.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully Yours,
Kuo-Wei Lee
The process of developing this piece of creative story and writing the letter of intent has helped me to be more creative and reflect more on my themes. I consider creative writing a process by which we communicate daily challenges and realities. The most difficult part was constructing a story that will reflect the future of this world in reality and staying within the limits of my creativity. It was difficult to come up with this combination without being boring.
The most difficult stage was the drafting of the main point. The main point was developing the story to tell, what and how conflict will be created and solved. The other parts were a bit challenging but relatively easy to follow. The teacher responses have enabled me to make each stage of this process simpler. I enjoyed most writing the letter of intent because it enabled me to give a synopsis of the story I wanted to develop.
