Book Cover Design

Book Cover Design

Design Brief
Re-design a full book jacket (front, back and spine) for a recently-read work of literature. This may be a novel, play or volume of poetry. Non-fiction (biography, essays, etc.) are also acceptable, so long as the book has been recently read and fresh in your mind.

Guidelines
On the cover, include title and author only (in addition to any image/s and graphics);
On the back, include a paragraph with your own description of the book. Also on the back, include a publisher’s logo and a scan code—both of which may be downloaded;
On the spine, provide title, author and publisher’s logo;
Include a combination of type, imagery and other graphics, unless there is a compelling reason to omit one of these. Explore a minimum of two creative effects covered in the Lynda video, and one Gestalt principle. Please identify these in your brief discussion;
Utilize various tools learned in the Lynda.com video tutorials from this module.
Include a brief summary of your project, and describe why your book re-design is effective. Please include an image or link to the original book cover and identify the designer, if known.
Upload your sketches and project concepts to your Blogger account, and alert us.
Provide a minimum of 2 Constructive Peer Critiques.
Format
Front Cover: 6” W x 9” H
Back Cover: 6” W x 9” H
Spine: 1” W x 9″ H

Submitting your work to your blog
After you have completed your preliminary work, upload it to your blog. Include the name of your project and a brief statement about your work. Then create a new discussion topic and let your classmates know that your work has been uploaded by submitting a link (URL) to your blog, and the title of your project in the subject line of the discussion post. This allows your peers to take a look at your work and critique it. You should view as many projects as possible and then choose two designs to comment on, using this discussion area below (not the blog). Be sure to use the M1 Constructive Peer Critique structure when commenting on student work.
