Bug Report 4: Feasibility Analysis

Generally, before the business plan and prior to actual start up of a new venture, some form of feasibility assessment is undertaken by the entrepreneur.  The purpose is to test the business concept and see if the conditions are right to go forward.  The goal is to decide, based on available information, whether to make a go/no go decision.  Especially for new products, feasibility assessment will prevent costly & uncalled for expenditures on product development and research.

Refer to page 61 (table 3.1) of your text for a list of key questions that assess distinct areas to be analyzed in a feasibility analysis.  You may also read pages 60-68 for a detailed description as well as Chapter 16.  Note that some areas have already been addressed by you earlier (e.g., market and customer, key features of product or service, etc).  So I want you to focus only on those aspects that have not been addressed so far in your new ventures.

Specifically, for each of your 3 new venture ideas, separately assess the following aspects of the business concept:

  1. Industry (answer questions 1-4 from table 3.1 on page 61 of your text)
  2. Founding team (answer questions 18-20 from table 3.1 on page 61 of your text)
  3. Finances (answer questions 21-25 from table 3.1 on page 61 of your text)
  4. Based on the above, decide if it is feasible to pursue the new venture idea further or not. Also, comment on whether this business is sustainable (i.e., for people, planet, profit) or not, and why this is the case.

You will need to do some research to address these questions.  Use the resources available to you from the UNT library and other resources available through books and internet sources.  A specially designed course page for the MGT 4220 has been created on the UNT library website that has some links that may be useful.  If you have not already accessed this information and need directions on how to get to it, here it is.

How to access your class page for MGT 4220.  Go to the UNT library home page at http://www.library.unt.edu/.  Click the Research Tab.  From there find our class by clicking on the arrow button.  This link will open up a list of courses in alphabetic order – scroll down until you find MGT 4220 Advanced Entrepreneurship.  Click on it and it will provide you with some well known sources for industry research.  Or you can go directly to our class page athttp://guides.library.unt.edu/mgmt4220

List the references you have used to complete this assignment using APA format.  As always, make sure you note the specific new venture idea with a title and one line description, so it is clear which particular idea you are discussing.

With the available resources, do the best you can to address the questions for this report.  Turn in 1-2 typed pages addressing the above 4 aspects for each new venture.
