Topic: Capability Assessments and Pipeline Planning

Task #4 – Capability Assessments and Pipeline Planning
Conduct a capability assessment, and then determine the pipeline for planning by setting those resources onto the pipeline matrix.
NOTE: I’ll be looking to how well you answer these primary questions:
What’s your evidence for the “desirability” of your strategic priorities?
What is feasible (i.e., what are your current capabilities?)?
What is viable (i.e., what are your potential capabilities and long-term implications?)?
Conduct a capability assessment, and then determine the pipeline for planning by setting those resources onto the pipeline matrix. I’m attaching two worksheets that I believe can help you with your planning:
NOTE: I’ll be looking to how well you answer these primary questions:

Also, the “Pipeline Matrix” refers to those things that are incremental (people and practices/resources currently exist), evolutionary (either people or practices/resources currently exists), and revolutionary (neither people nor practices/resources exists). The “Pipeline Matrix” is covered in the Lecture “Drafting a Strategic Plan.”
I will attach my Strategy Worksheet to see what is the plan and also I will attach the work sheet that my instraccher ask for it that need to be fill d out so basically you fill out that sheet base on the information is on the my plane which is about mesa academy and my first goal which it was to help black African student to be successful in college and not be minority population so I I want you to do focus on question is on the sheet and answer the question is tow sheet and also defining sustainability for that plan, mission statement, business model statement, What is your business model statement? Strategic planning and forecasting
Mesa Academy main focus is to enhance the success of African American students by promoting professional, academic as well as cultural development. To effectively identify and address the concerns and the need of African American student through effective communication and unity of action. Functional level strategy focus on coordinating functional business area of the organization, therefore, every functional area of the organization contributes and upholds to individual corporate level strategy as well as business level strategies. This implies that it involves coordination of the various operations and functions that are needed to deliver, design and support services and products of all business within the portfolio of the corporate. Functional strategies will primarily help the organization to focus on efficiency of services delivery thus utilizing specialist such as online consolers within the functional area thus integrating activities within the functional area, and hence the functional strategy engages with the co-operate-level strategy as well as with the business level strategies.
The strategic plan should have the basic operations performance objectives. This will help the college to measure the performance of its operations. The following should be included quality, cost, and dependability. From the customers’ point of view (students) the characteristics of the quality include reliability, aesthetic ad performance. Quality from an operation point of view is associated with how close the counseling services meet the design specifications. Good quality has numerous advantages on the organization competitiveness such as improved services reduced cost and dependability. The strategic plan attempt to determine the future answering the question of what should education look like in years to come in order to prepare, motivate and engage African American for success in the 21st century. To learn about the focal issues, I will explore trends in other domain mainly technology, politics, economics, demographics and globalization this will help determine how they affect education in general and the department of counseling.
Today, the world has evolved, and young people in schools are living in an exciting time with new technologies, mobile society as well as expanding opportunities. To ensure African American students are prepared to have an impact in the society and become responsible leaders and workers students’ guidance and support during the transition to adulthood. As part of developing the organization strategic plan, an analysis of external environmental factors should be performed. A SWOT analysis will reveal connections, provide prospective and highlight areas for action. The SWOT analysis will mainly focus on external factors that include, threats and opportunities that technology present and thus helping the leaders to avoid a mistake that can cost the organization and thus SWOT analysis is key for decision making.
The highly dynamic nature of technology greatly affects organizations. A way of doing things may be rendered obsolete by technological change. Therefore, organizations should be on the look-out for these changes and make sure they adapt as quickly as possible. Today, technology is changing fast and continuously simplifying things. Technological changes are affecting how things are done as Customers are becoming more informed about products because technology is making the acquisition of information easier. Competitors, regulators, and suppliers, therefore, adopt the latest technology to reach the customer. People want easy and economical access to resources, and therefore, they will opt for the best way which helps them achieve this.
Students are reliant on technology and are preferring to use online resources rather than traditional ways like physical counseling. The college has the opportunity to reach these students by adopting the technology in its operations. Therefore, the college should provide online classes where registration and counseling will be online. This will increase gradually, the number of bookings. Lack of adopting new technology will render the college obsolete as it will not reach students as students are going to online resources. This can be proved by the enormous and continuous fall in the number of bookings made by students. These scenarios can only be changed by the willingness to adapt to these technological changed. Therefore, strategic plans made should factor in technological changes which will enable the college to transform smoothly since these changes will be identified early enough and changes are made.
Strategic priorities
Using data to drive San Diego Mesa College counseling goal development program development and planning as well as practice for measurable outcomes that align with Mesa Academy improvement process in the college will be of strategic priority. The trends are ranked as follows.

The above strategic priority will be aided by the use of information technology thus the current number of counselors will be maintained, and thus the strategy will help maximize their resources and time while linking the intervention and goals to the results. Besides, the strategy will provide evidence for the institution to advocate for a systematic change thus helping the college to offer competitive, high quality, as well as value based academic programs that will empower African American students and thus prepare them adequately for further studies and life outside of college. The strategy will also provide the result that is measured in African American students’ outcomes.
The first step involves data collection analysis and interpretation this present a force of great importance as it helps in identification of gaps in student outcomes. This step involves examining data element that describes African American student outcomes they include all the relevant measures such as gender, race among others this is important as it will help identify college, community, and student need data should also be analyzed identify uncertainties.
The second step involves developing and prioritizing measurable and data-centric goals that align with San Diego Mesa College goals. All the goals must be specific to Mesa Academy improvement they should also be time sensitive and quantifiable.
The third step involves planning thus developing an intervention for all the goals while prioritizing to determine the feasibility of the plan. This will involve developing a solution which will be implemented successfully within the context of San Diego Mesa College.
The other step will be to implement the developed plan for every goal this involves benchmarking to control and monitor progress. This implies that each goal will have a multi-level action plan and therefore different individuals will be assigned tasks for implementation.
The fifth step will include collection and reporting data outcome to Mesa Academy stakeholders here strategies may be adjusted as required based on the outcomes. The last step involves institutionalizing practices, policies and procedures to sustain the program gain as well as equity. Here interventions and strategies that result in equity gain and positive student outcomes must be identified and thus made standards procedures within the context of Mesa Academy.
For the program to be successful, it will be comprehensive providing full range counseling besides it will be collaborative working thus involving the college community and home. Furthermore, the program will be developmental covering all dimension career, emotional, physical societal and cogitative. The program will be effective as it addresses the following three specific building blocks:
• Program support
• Program caring goal
• Program delivery
The current structure provides support to the African American students in the achievement of academic goals and to have a positive college experience. However, the current online counseling program gives priority to specific students i.e. students enrolled in online classes. The current structure promotes and empowers students to become a community of justice, love, and peace. However, power, love, and justice are not necessarily considerations in the development of a structure that is collaborative and comprehensive.
Capacity Assessments
For Mesa Academy to maintain a comprehensive counseling program that is most current and at the sometimes meets the future needs of African American students there is need to assess the program and revise it periodically for the program to remain relevant while embracing new technology. This can only be achieved by setting time frames that are realistic by dividing tasks in manageable divides. This may be achieved by; first having the groundwork ready for program change and revision then moving toward developing additional section that is not included. Implementing and evaluating program update are the last steps.
As information technology evolves, the program will include some responsive services. This is very important to all the students as it ensures timely and appropriate response to students’ social, career and personal concerns. Therefore some resources are will be diverted to the development and maintenance of a counseling program that is responsive this will enable intervention services to be delivered to different students groups as well as to individuals based on their level of urgency. Responsive Counseling program will be very important as it will ease the process of data collection as it will make the process of data recording and analysis faster and easy hence the process of decision making will also be fast as it will be backed up by valid data from students.
Future scenarios
With innovation at its best, the future of African American students will be more successful. Just imagining a future where all people regardless of their ethnicity affiliation will coexist and live together as brothers and sister who are affected by similar challenges. That is no academic, professional or life challenge that will be affiliated with particular groups such as African American. Another future scenario would be when counseling is automated such that our mobile device will be using artificial intelligence by extracting data from our mode of communication to diagnose the most probable challenge confronting an individual and at the same time suggesting the solution to the problem.

Strategy Worksheet
LDRS 341: Strategic Planning and Forecasting

Your Name

Your Organization

Scenario Planning involves a series of steps, or Tasks.Choose one issue for your organization. Use the following pages to guide your work
Task #1 – Level of Strategy

Identify your level(s) of strategy (e.g., corporate, business, functional, personal/professional)

AND

A focal issue or decision and time horizon.

NOTE: Ideally you’re focusing on what you’ve identified from your PLP learning. However, I trust that you’ll complete this for whatever purposes make sense for this course.
Explain:
• Why is it important?
• Why should it be included in a strategic plan?
• What do you hope for this focal or decision?
• What do you want and need to know about this focal issue?
• How will you learn about this focal issue?
Task #2 – SWOT Analysis

Identify key trends and uncertainties in the external environment Explain:
• How will these trends affect the behavior of customers, suppliers, competitors, regulators, etc.,
• What are you learning about the “wants” and “needs” of people, regarding resources (i.e., human, financial and technical essentials)?
• What are you learning about the context(s) in which the organization exists (i.e., what are the external opportunities and threats to the organization’s sustainability?)?
• Which key forces are most likely to define or change the nature or direction of the scenarios?

NOTE: This section essentially pull from your Data-driven Leadership course, LDRS 321. Please upload your signature assignment from that course.

Include your analysis report and revise your memo on the data plan for the purposes of this course. In other words, based on your SWOT Analysis, the questions I pose, begin thinking about your strategic priorities – but don’t decide them.
Task #3 – Strategic Priorities

Rank the trends by importance. Explain:
• Which represent forces of greater importance and uncertainty? To what extent are the strategic priorities “desirable, feasible and viable”?
• Do some of the trends “cluster together” in some way? If so, which and how?

Task #4 – Capability Assessments and Pipeline Planning

Conduct a capability assessment, and then determine the pipeline for planning by setting those resources onto the pipeline matrix.

NOTE: I’ll be looking to how well you answer these primary questions:

What’s your evidence for the “desirability” of your strategic priorities?

What is feasible (i.e., what are your current capabilities?)?
What is viable (i.e., what are your potential capabilities and long-term implications?)?
Task #5 – Vision

Scenario Construction: Create 2-3 scenarios. Think of scenarios as some time in the future. Imagine falling asleep and waking up at some future date. What would the environment look like?
Good scenarios include the following:
1. Story: a vivid description of the future
2. Decision-making Power: The story provides insight into the decision under question
3. Plausible: Internally consistent, engages every member of the team.
4. Different: Each scenario should be structurally or qualitatively different. Differences in magnitude are not enough.
5. Memorable: Easy to remember and differentiated – scenarios with rich content.
6. Challenge: Each scenario must challenge the conventional thinking in the organization
Task #6: Action Planning and Execution

Identify events that will indicate that a particular scenario is beginning to occur.

NOTE:

These are, to some extent, high-level indicators. In the project management course, you will be able to develop more detailed workplans.
Task #7 – Impact

Identify winning capabilities and strategies Identify the capabilities of a winning organization in each scenario. Tell strategic options that should be pursued in the future.

Strategic options can be as simple as a list of action items. Determine which should be pursued immediately.
