SHRM is a global organization that human resource professional can join. They have over 285,000 members in 165 countries. They have local chapters that human resources professionals can attend and learn more about the human resources field for continuing education credits. The role and purpose is to help with educating human resource professionals. They serve the needs of human resources professionals and help advance the human resources field. They have a plethora of information on any topic related to human resources that professionals can seek out if they need guidance in a certain area. They offer training topics and articles on every aspect of human resources. They are the leading organization for advancing the human resources field and addressing issues. They serve as a professional development site for human resources professionals helping with certifications, test and also helping professionals advance in HR. They also offer career opportunities for those looking for jobs in the human resources field.

Conduct research on the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). What is its role and purpose as it relates to assistance it can give to human resource personnel members to help them effectively and efficiently complete their tasks and duties?

It appears that the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) starting issuance of their own testing and certifications in 2015. These knowledge-based exams provide emphases on employee engagement and employee relations regarding to the working environment. The Society for Human Resource Management also provides what is called SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge, this particularly itemizes skills, knowledge, and expertise in development of HR managers. Outlined in the Competency and Knowledge form is what an HR manager should be able to obtain, including but not limited to, leadership and navigation; ethical practice; business acumen; relationship management; consultation; critical evaluation; global and cultural effectiveness; and of course, communication. All of the items provide a baseline for what typically human resource managers should obtain. Learning to challenge yourself with these skills and learn how to prepare yourself in the knowledge to become an effective human resource manager.

According to Dessler (2016), the SHRM has been benchmarking services which enable their employers to compare their own HR metrics with other companies; whereas, informed acquisitions by industry, employer size, company revenue, and geographic region.

The SHRM provides valuable resources to help assist human resource personnel member efficiently and effectively to complete their tasks and duties by comparing their metrics with other companies and how to improve and extensive training measures to improve customer service.
