Changes in the DSM-V
Your assignment is to investigate the specifics of the changes from the DSM-IV-TR to the DSM-VÂ on gender or sex- related disorders. The illness formerly known as Gender Identity Disorder is an obvious (and great) choice, but there were other changes in the category that you could also find out about if you so choose. Then, write up the following:
- What disorder did you investigate and why?
- What changed from the DSM-IV-TR to the DSM-V? Be very specific- you can copy and paste differences in wording, the criteria, etc. if it helps you describe what happened.
- What do you think about the change you describe? Does the change matter? For the good or for the bad and why? Sometimes the changes seem insignificant, other times they have huge social or political implications (such as when homosexuality was removed from the DSM-III).Â
