Directions for Completing the Chapter 4 Assignment
I. Guiding Questions:
Use the following guiding questions to navigate through the content you will find in the text, PowerPoint presentation, and articles for chapter four:
1. List 5 strategies you could use as a teacher or practitioner to foster communication between yourself and the families of students in your class?
2. Think of a family you know in which there is a child with special needs. Describe the effect of this child on the family? Which theoretical approach might be most helpful in explaining this family’s reaction to their situation?
3. Discuss why a team or club of which you were a member was “collaborative” or not.
4. Review Figure 4.2 on page 108. Discuss your thoughts about praise vs. encouragement. How will you use praise and encouragement in your classroom? Give examples to clarify your response.
5. Review Figure 4.3 on page 111. How could you use this information to prepare yourself for a conference with parents to discuss a student’s inappropriate behavior?
