I’m-laboratory Assignment
(page 2 ot’4)

Show all calculations for the following solution preparations for full credit. Transfer all

calculated volumes and masses to page 4 of the pre-lab.

1. 100 mL of the 0.0250 M HCl solution by dilution of the 1.00 M HCl solution provided in the
lab.

2. 100 mL of the 0.0125 M HCl solution by dilution of the 0.0250 M HCl solution.

3. 50 ml. oftheo.00(125 M HC I solution by an appropriate dilution ofthe 0.0125 M HCI solution.

4. 100 ml. oft).025 M HNO; prepared from 1.0 M HNO; solution.

5. 100 mL 010.025 M KOH prepared from 1.0 M KOH solutions.

6. For part of the experiment, you will need to prepare 100 mL of 0.025 M C H3Co3H (acetic
acid), starting from commercial “glacial” acetic acid, which has a concentration of 17.4 M.
Devise a method using a two-step serial dilution to make 100 mL of 0.025 M acetic acid
solution. The glassware available is a 100 mL volumetric flask, 50.00 mL volumetric flask,
1.00 mL volumetric pipet, and a 10 mL graduated pipet- For the first step, dilute 1.00 mL of
glacial acetic acid to 50.00 mL to produce “Solution 1″. You will then use Solution 1 to make
the 0.025 M concentration for step 2. Determine the volume of Solution I needed to make 100
mL of 0.025 M acetic acid. (View the serial dilution tutorial.)

7. Devise a method (two-step serial dilution) similar to that in the prewous question to make
100.00 mL of 0.025 M NH; (ammonia), from concentrated ammonia, which has a
concentration of l5.28 M.

8. Calculate the memes ofthe solids you must measure out to prepare 100 mL each of 0.025 M
KNo3, 0.025 M CuSO4, 0.025 M Cat’NO3j);,0.025 M AltNO3)3, and 0.025 M KC l. (Note that
some of these salts are hurdles; their fomiulas are: C8{No3)3 «ll-110, AltNOm-Slllgo, and
Cu804’5H30). You must include the watcxs of hydration when calculating the formula
weights- Show all vour calculations for full credit.

A. 0.025 M KNO;

B. 0-025 M Cu304

C. 0.025 M (3110103);

D. 0.025 M Al(NOx)z

Ii. 0.025 M KCI.
