Children Essay

QUESTION YOU ARE ANSWERING: 8 Pages
Many, if not all, of our theoretical writers make provocative and (potentially) controversial assertions about childhood, literature, and/or childhood innocence. Other voices have been part of the discussions; locate an article (or chapter from a book) which addresses one of the key issues explored in our readings. Compare the two approaches. Evaluate the material in terms of what it adds to your understanding of the concept.
Instructions:

1. Write on TWO (2) primary texts from our course reading list (Barrie, Burnett, Collins, Fitzhugh, Keats, Mckissack, Milne, Philips, Potter, Richardson and Parnell, Rowling, Sendak, Sterling, Stewart, Tamaki, and Tan). THE TWO TEXTS YOU ARE USING IS : WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE AND THE SECRET GARDEN

2. Incorporate ONE (1) theoretical text (Lesnik-Oberstein, Hendrik, Bruhm and Hurley, Nodelman and M. Reimer, Jehlen, Jefferess, and Carlson) into your essay in a meaningful way (i.e. incorporate brief, direct quotations; analyse the quotations; identify the theorist’s thesis, main arguments, support and/or critique theorist’s ideas etc.) I WILL DO THIS PART, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THIS !!! this is the part i didnt need you to do. i will find an article myself because it is related to my course
3. Provide evidence to support your ideas by using short quotations from the sources (primary, theoretical, and secondary). Following the quotation (or paraphrasing), provide the page number, in parentheses ( ), of the text from which you have quoted or paraphrased. Do not use footnotes. Although you can use paraphrases, your essay MUST contain DIRECT QUOTATIONS as well. PLEASE USE DIRECT QUOTATIONS FROM THE BOOKS WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE AND THE SECRET GARDEN

4. TWO (2) secondary sources must NOT be texts read in our course. PLEASE DO THIS AND PROVIDE REFERENCE TO WHERE YOU GOT THE INFORMATION FROM IN THE WORKS CITED AND IN TEXT-CITATIONS!!!

5.
a. Use the ideas and arguments of other critics sparingly, intelligently, and in a scholarly manner. The focus of the essay must be on your own ideas.
b. Use relevant and reputable published critical articles or books. Brief quotations are preferable. A relevant article/book is one that deals directly with one or both texts about which you are writing and has something worthwhile to say about your thesis topic.
c. Try to find sources published within the last 5-10 years.
6. Follow MLA style for citing quotations and providing a Works Cited page (not included in your page count).
