Examining the different theoretical paradigms (i.e. structural functionalism, etc.) discussed it, what are the purposes of education outlined in each one? What
assumptions does each paradigm make about individuals, society, and education?
1. What are the benefits and limitations of each paradigm? Give examples from your experiences and observations to explain your ideas.
2. Which of the paradigms discussed in the chapter is evident in your educational context, workplace or community? Explain and provide evidence.
3. If you have observed more than one dominant paradigm in your workplace or education, to what extent have the differences in paradigms contributed to conflict
between various groups (e.g. educators situate themselves in a different paradigm than administrators)?
