1.1. Practice Story (Critical Incident): Encounter with a person who has a chronic illness (250 words).

Describe a critical incident (story) of an encounter with a person who has a chronic illness. This incident may focus on a situation that has gone well or was particularly challenging for you. A good description gives a clear accurate account of the situation without judgement and should be described in a way that a person who was not there can understand the situation from your perspective. The focus is not on the medical details of the person?s condition but your encounter with them. Again, please do not use the names or places involved to maintain anonymity and confidentiality.
To assist you write your story, use the following prompts:
1. Where and when did the situation occur?
2. Who was involved in the situation?
3. Describe the specific circumstances of the care provided/not provided.
4. Describe how you felt about the situation at the time
. 5. Describe what you did at the time of the situation.
6. Describe what you thought and felt about the situation at a later time (Bulman & Schutz, 2013, p.37). reflect on your own practice experiences and your critical incident (described above). In this part of your assessment we are asking you to stand back from your practice and consider the following questions:
1. How do you as a health professional view chronic illness? 2. How did the person living with a chronic illness think about their illness? 3. What do you think might be influencing or shaping your practice?
