Images represent much more than the literal–they also suggest figurative meanings as well. Images can describe setting and characters, creating mood and tone for understanding their significance.
Focusing on your favorite chapter, choose one image to analyze from Cisneros’ novel and write a persuasive critical reading response exploring its significance as it relates either to setting, character development, and/or major themes in the story. Your response must contain a thesis statement—i .e., an original claim—and utilize evidence from the text, referencing page numbers so we can follow your argument.
