Clinical Field Experience

Allocate a total of 12 hours to complete all three parts of this Clinical Field Experience. The completion of the Clinical Field Experience should reflect the standards of the Focused Field Experience Activity List; Planning for Instruction – [InTASC 7]

1. Develop and/or teach a lesson plan one-on-one, small group or whole class that provides multiple ways for [a]student[s] to demonstrate knowledge and skills.(InTASC 7c)
2. Develop and/or teach a lesson plan based on assessment data, prior knowledge and student interest one-on-one, small group or whole class. (InTASC 7d, 7l)
3. Collaboratively plan and teach a lesson plan one-on-one, small group or whole class. (InTASC 7a, 7g)

Part 1:  Observe a minimum of three social studies lessons led by a certified teacher. While observing, take detailed notes so you will have the information you need to complete this assignment. After observing the three lessons, choose one to deconstruct from beginning to end by writing a lesson plan of what you observed using the GCU Lesson Plan located on the College of Education’s page in the Student Success Center.

Note:  This assignment should be completed based on your personal observations only; please do not review the teacher’s lesson notes or plans. APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected. You are not required to submit this assignment to Turnitin.

Part 2:  Write a 250-500-word reflection regarding the instructional strategies implemented during the observed lesson. Include the following items in your reflection:

1. Elaborate on the use of instructional strategies
2. Evaluate the effectiveness of the teacher’s instructional strategies
3. Describe what you would do differently regarding choice of  instructional strategies

Support your analysis with research-based best practices.

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Part 3: Rewrite the lesson plan incorporating the revisions you described in Part 2 using the GCU Lesson Plan, located on the College of Education’s page in the Student Success Center
