Communicate with influence

Assessment Task 2

This task requires you to communicate clearly and lead a meeting effectively.

¶ Read the following

This task is a role play.  Discuss with your assessor the people who will work with you to perform the task.  It will be a meeting which you lead, with at least 3 people.  Your assessor must observe you conducting the meeting.  This may be face to face or via electronic means.

Role Play Scenario

Relate this task to your own workplace environment or a workplace you are familiar with, assuming that you manage a department in the workplace.  (If this is your actual role, relate the task to yourself and your team.)

Your team is overworked.  Several of them are working very long hours to achieve the work load on time.  They are frustrated and tired.  One team member is very frustrated and thinks he/she is carrying a higher workload and the other team members don’t help.  You have various options to overcome the problem.  You could streamline processes and procedures, introduce new technology or equipment or employ further staff.

You decide to hold a team meeting to discuss the problems and consult them for ideas.  At the same time you need to de-fuse the frustrations and influence the team to work more closely together and help one another.
