Community Food Security
In a 4-6 double-spaced page paper, 11 font, describe a hypothetical community that is working to meet the criteria of community food security (CFS). Your ‘community ‘ may be a hispanic neighborhood, rural US southern town, retirement community, etc. Identify specific programs to fit with your community like community gardens; farm-to school programs, sustainable restaurant policies; etc. that would enable “all community residents to obtain a safe, culturally acceptable, nutritionally adequate diet through a sustainable food system that maximizes self-reliance and social justice.” You choose what programs to include; obviously your paper will not be able to comprehensively describe all aspects of a food secure community.
In the final paragraph, present your thoughts about how realistic you think your community would be. What obstacles would have to be dealt with?
Each of you brings different academic and personal understandings of food security and community programs. There are many ways to approach this assignment, so use your background, read a bit more about local food security, and have fun designing a hypothetical community
