The task requires you to design a needs assessment on your chosen topic which is about Gambling in rural areas within Australia (e.g. young men, women, elderly population etc) that could realistically be conducted in a real life setting. You need to consider what information you would need to collect, from which stakeholder groups in the community, and the most appropriate and feasible methods for collecting the information.
Firstly, you are expected to explain and discuss the background to the issue in your chosen context using the most relevant and up-to-date data. We also want to get a sense of your understanding around the different types of needs.
Then, in outlining the process of your needs assessment, you need to refer to one of the planning frameworks (or more than one if you find elements of them you’d like to combine). As the planning frameworks cover the entire process for a program plan, you are only required to focus on the needs assessment element of your chosen model/framework.
For example, if you were to choose the Central Sydney Area Health Service model, you would focus on Planning 1: conducting consultations, gathering information about the issue, examining the organisational context, but NOT analysing the information and making a judgement – this will be explored in Module 3.
You won’t be doing any primary data collection (only secondary data collection) but when you outline your proposed primary data collection methods, you will need to provide a rationale for why you have chosen these methods and support these with evidence. For example, if you choose to use focus groups to collect information from one group, explain why this method was chosen and is appropriate to that particular group. Your ideas need to be evidence-based and thoroughly referenced. It should be written in professional third person language.
