Paper details:

31-32-2 Assessment Task 2-Assignment
Part A – Short answer questions
1. Outline the practices that you could use to improve your personal performance at work.
2. Identify one specific area of your work practice that requires personal or professional development. What principles and techniques could you put in place to improve that aspect of your work, such as your time management skills?
3. You are explaining a procedure to a new co-worker but they don’t appear to understand what you are saying, and ask if they can write some notes. What might this tell you about their learning style? What could you do to present the information in a way that may be easier for them to utilise
4. Your supervisor has suggested that you need to become more self-aware of your personal attributes and characteristics and the way you relate to others, including clients. What would you take into account when reflecting on your personal characteristics and how these may impact on your work with others?
5. Using an example, describe the legal and ethical principles you need to consider when a client in your care tells you they want to participate in an activity that may involve an element of risk to them.
Part B – Case Study
Read the scenario, then answer the questions that follow.
Scenario
You are a supervisor in a residential care setting. A care worker and a client are having a misunderstanding.
The client, Maria, has specific dietary requirements and has accused the worker, Kayla, of discriminating against her because she has a disability and comes from a different cultural background. She says that Kayla needed to be reminded twice about her specific dietary requirements, and on several occasions has ignored her preference for privacy when getting changed. Kayla also asked Maria impatiently last week why she has to wear so many layers of clothes.
Kayla says that she has made mistakes but none of them are deliberate. She says she is a new worker and is still learning her job.
Maria wants to make an official complaint. She says that Kayla is incompetent and does not attempt to respect individual differences. This upsets Kayla because she says she is trying her hardest but feels under pressure because she has so much to do and so much to remember
1. What steps would you take initially to try to resolve the misunderstanding between Maria and Kayla?
2. What steps should you take to ensure that Maria has access to the organisation’s complaints procedure if she wishes to go ahead with her complaint?
3. Kayla has agreed that she will try to improve her skills in the area of cultural competence and says she will start by doing some personal research. Conduct online research and list three websites that may provide information to help Kayla improve her skills in this area and keep up with developments and evolving trends in the area of cultural diversity.
4. What other steps could Kayla take to develop her skills and knowledge in this area?
