1.Explain why some thinkers have found the existence of evil to be a counterexample to Anselm’s Ontological Proof of God’s Existence. Is the existence of evil truly incompatible with a wholly good and all-powerful divinity? Explain your answer.
2.In Evil and the God of Love John Hick argued that the existence of both moral and natural evil is compatible with God’s existence. What is Hick’s argument and is he correct? Explain your answer.
3.Compare and contrast Blaise Pascal’s wager argument and William James’s argument that our “passional nature not only lawfully may, but must, decide an option between propositions whenever it is a genuine option that cannot by its nature be decided on intellectual grounds” (“The Will to Believe,” 374).
Present and critically evaluate the account of conversion that William James lays out in Lectures IX and X of The Varieties of Religious Experience.
