Compare and Contrast on a film

The project should explore a topic, theory or technique covered in class, either through a written essay (such as a compare/contrast essay)

Written projects should be

Ø       Between 4 and 12 pages long.

Ø       Well-written, typed, double spaced (You’d better spellcheck AND proof or you will feel the pointy end of my pen!)

Ø       Well-supported by examples.

The whole idea of making you do a project is that this gives you an opportunity to apply concepts from class to a film of your choice or making. The tests check to see if you understand the material. The project checks to see what you can do with it.

There are sample projects that received “As” on the website

In this, the era of  DVD special bonus content, I have been disappointed to find that many students copy DVD bonus info down and turn it in as their project.  This is what we in the business call “cheating.”  To discourage this, I’m hoping you will focus your written project around one of the following areas:

v      A genre study or analysis

Or

v      A 5 principles of film form analysis

Or

v      A comparison/contrast between two films on a topic of your choice.
