COMPOSITIONAL ANALYSIS

ASSIGNMENT:

For this third assignment you will be applying what you learned regarding the media we discussed so far this unit to research and discuss the working process of the artist you have chosen to work on this semester (this should be the same artist you worked on for the second assignment). To accomplish this, you must complete all of the following steps:

• Research the working methods of your chosen artist. If your artist was primarily known for working in one medium (like painting, sculpture, or ceramics), research how the artist specifically used that medium; if your artist worked in multiple media, choose one to research.
  
• The goal is to determine how your artist used a specific medium.  Some artists use a medium traditionally, while others are experimental. You should be able to compare and contrast their methods with those discussed in this unit.
  
• Using what you learned during your research and from the unit material, write an analysis of your artist’s working method by providing the following:

• A general overview of how your artist worked.
• A specific example of how you artist worked, including a specific work of art you can refer to.
• A comparison and contrast with the method(s) as we learned about in this unit.
  

• Include an image of your artist’s work of art you are analyzing in the paper, and add all necessary identifying information (artist’s name, artwork title, medium, dimensions, and year produced).  If images exist of your artist at work, you might wish to include those (and explain them) as support for your analysis.
  
• If you have questions about sources to use for this assignment, talk to your instructor!
  

Develop your thoughts in a 3-4 page, typed paper.  Your paper should be double-spaced, using no larger than a twelve-point font.
