Assignment 1: Concept Analysis Paper
Word length: 1800-2400 words not including references
Addresses learning outcome(s):
On completion, students will be able to: ?1. Compare and contrasted different conceptions of community engagement and development, philosophies and practices;?2. analyse relevant local, national and international case studies;?3. critically analyse the relationship between social justice, economic and political issues that impact on communities;
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to communicate your understanding of key concepts presented during the unit.
Process: During the unit you will be provided with reading and lecture materials that cover three key concepts in the unit: ?change?, ?community? and ?community development?.
For each of these key concepts you are asked to write 600-800 words that communicate your understanding of these terms and reflect on your own learning from this task.
This assignment is to be presented in the form of a formal paper consisting of three parts covering each concept. You are not restricted to reading only the unit material and can draw on any other sources that help you communicate your understanding of each concept, however you must include at least 1 reading from the unit readings in your analysis for each concept.
There is no set format for your concept analysis paper. A few points to consider may be:?
1. Are there differences in definitions of the concept??
2. How is the concept applied in different settings eg. education, health, policy?
3. What are the debates or critiques surrounding the concept?
4. How does the use of the concept relate to your own experience and or area of work (in teaching) ?
Assessment Criteria
. 1 Concise definition of each core concept supported by literature (20%) ?
. 2 Integration of relevant reading material (20%) ?
. 3 Clear, coherent articulation of ideas, logical structure of information ?(20%) ?
. 4 Appropriate use of grammar, conventions and referencing (20%) ?
. 5 Evidence of critical reflection of concepts (20%) ?
