Concept statement| Architecture and Design
Illustrator prepare different levels of density, translucency, and transparency thru layering multiple elements within different colors, shapes, and materials on his illustrations. My design translates this into architecture thru layering building components on the different levels due to the site forces, on the top level of the structure itself acts canopy role to provide shaded space for the precious art collection, at the same time it allows maximized natural light into the needed spaces as a whole. The arrangement of various materials in both interior and exterior gives different degrees of density to Picture Book Art Center & Library. Based on the ‘Building should give back to space’ philosophy, pull back on the mid layered level provides a generous amount of open and green space with the City’s mid-point, Copley Square view and it takes the historical street culture and atmosphere into the building on both Dartmouth and Newbury street facades. The Picture Book Art Center &Library adapts itself to the City of Boston and serves intellectual space for the users.
