1. At school, your friend tells you about a strange dream that he/she had. Here’s the dream — he/she was a bird and flying high over Jones Beach looking for a fish in the water. A fish was finally caught; the bird flew to the beach, and ate the fish. However, the bird had to eat quickly because a storm was coming. Your friend asks you what you think this dream means. Offer your friend an answer and use the following terms in your answer: latent content of dreams and manifest content of dreams. (10 possible points)
2. Read the scenario (or story) below and answer the questions.
A family had a very cute dog, named ‘Buttons’. The dog was always fed in the morning which followed a routine. Generally, the mother in the house was the first to wake up. She would first come into the living room, open the curtains, and then go in the kitchen and pour the dog some food. When they first got the dog, the mother noticed that the dog would begin to salivate, get excited, and spin in circles as soon as the food was poured. However, she soon begin to notice that when the curtains were opened, the dog would salivate, get excited, and spin in circles even before the dog saw the food. She was amazed how the dog learned. In fact, any time the dog heard a curtain open, the dog would salivate, get excited, and spin. (Answer questions 2a- 2e. 3. Read the scenario below and answer the question.
People rely on memory to function in daily life and to give them a sense of the past. We often try to remember important events or things that we learned. Imagine that you try to remember something important you did with your family in July, 2014. You struggle trying to bring back to memory the event. Your parents are amazed that you are having difficulty remembering. However, during that same year, you learned how to swim and remember quite well how to swim until this day. Why would a person have difficulty remembering the important event but not how to swim? As you offer an explanation, be sure to use the following terms in your answer: procedural memories, declarative memories, levels of processing, decay, and interference. (30 possible points)
