Illustrate the statement “Argument is everywhere” by discussing your predominant argument style. If you have a more “consensual style,” you prefer indirectness, cooperation, group consensus, negotiation, and personal examples, and you generally dislike conflict. If you have more of an “adversarial style” of arguing, you are more direct and open. You prefer competition, individual opinions, contentious issues, and logical, winning, and abstract ideas.
Think about a recent argument you had. Identify when you argued, the issue, with whom you argued, and what you were trying to accomplish with the argument. Was it a consensual or adversarial argument? Was this argument typical of your argument style? What do you like best about your personal style of arguing? What would you like to change? How can you improve your skills and become more flexible in your style?
