The Australian Federal Government is currently undertaking significant reforms of the aged care sector. Specifically, the sector has been criticised for not being responsive to the needs of the Australian population and will be unable to deliver appropriate and effective care to an ageing population with increasingly more complex care needs. A key element of the reform process will involve a move towards Consumer-Directed Care whereby people will have greater choice, and the care they receive will be based on their individual needs.
You have been asked to provide a summary of Consumer-Directed Aged Health Care, both in Australia and internationally, and include examples of where it has been implemented and evaluated. You are then required to provide a summary of the requirements for effective implementation in Australia along with an evaluation framework that you will have developed to determine your framework?s effectiveness over time.
