Controversial Memory Titles

Controversial Memory Titles

There are cases in which legitimate repressed memories are recovered by clients with the help therapists and other cases in which repressed memories seem to be false recollections [accidentally] imposed by well-meaning therapists.

This research and discussion relates to the discussion of whether or not our memories are accurate and how well we can trust our own memory and/or the testimony of eye-witnesses within the legal system.

For your initial post:

1) Please find a news article that discusses the accuracy of repressed memories or eye-witness testimony. You can do this by Googling either term and choosing an article from a reliable source (news articles or well-respected magazine articles, do not choose blogs or student papers, etc. as your source).

2) Include the title of the article you found as the subject of your thread and please include a link to the article within the body of your initial post.

3) In your own words, post a summary (at least 1 paragraph) of the article

4) Let’s assume that a person recalls having been abused as a young child 30 years after the fact. With no other evidence, would you feel that the victim’s now vivid memories were sufficient to charge the accused defendant with a crime or is more evidence needed? Explain why.

5) You will not get credit for posting the same article as someone else, so please read others’ posts and post early.
