Explore the elements and principles of effective design through the creation of a poster. Study the basics of typography and how to use type effectively in your design. Reflect upon design’s potential to influence social change, and then put it to the test. Further explore Adobe Photoshop.
In this module, you will:
1 conceptualize a poster for a social or political cause, where content and form are synergistically linked;
2 study and apply design elements and principles with purpose;
3 study and apply the basics of typography with purpose;
4 practice meaningful integration of type and imagery for decisive messaging;
5 analyze the concept and structure of a professional poster, and evaluate its effectiveness in informing society, empowering action and igniting change.
Now that you have read the material throughout this module and completed the assigned reading, please discuss the following questions:
6 After reading Design Ignites Change: Design As Social Educator , what topic could you explore in your awareness poster that would have a positive impact on society, and ignite change? In detail, explain the research process you would undergo to assist in the development of this awareness poster.
7 Research and select an awareness poster on the web, and describe how it generates awareness. Please specifically discuss its use of elements and principles of design, and its typographical treatment. How do these visual components contribute to the effectiveness of the poster’s intended message.
