Listening description:

You can use the same format of three columns similar to the listening guides utilized in the book, especially if there are lyrics that will guide the reader through. It is also important to use a timecode. Also acceptable is a paragraph form (for example)

0:00

The song begins (intro) with a single guitar playing chords, in a triple meter slow waltz rhythm, establishing the harmonic structure of the chorus that comes in later.

0:16

The singer begins with the first verse (A section) accompanied by the guitar playing chords, establishing a homophonic texture, singing: Por la blanda arena que lame el mar/ Su pequeña huella no vuelve más/ Un sendero solo de pena y silencio llegó/ Hasta el agua profundal;

0:36

A section of violins enter to enrich a polyphonic texture upon these lyrics; Un sendero solo de penas mudas llegó/ Hasta la espuma

0:55

The B section begins in which strings and horns are layered under the vocals; Te vas Alfonsina con tu soledad/ ¿Qué poemas nuevos fuiste a buscar?/ …

In the description, be sure to establish the meter (duple, triple meter or other) and where there are meter changes. Also identify the feel (upbeat, slow, laid back, driving beat) and where this changes throughout the piece. Be sure to identify instruments that are being played, types of textures and dynamics. Be able recognize when a section repeats (refrains) for example: at 2:12 the form reverts to the A section repeating the second verse.
