Creative Methodology Exercise

For this assessment task students will work directly with the core text
‘The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian’ by Sherman Alexis.
You must undertake an analysis of the book and reflect on how this type of literature or presentation
of information might begin to shed light on social realities and how it might be considered a form of
ethnography or graphic and qualitative insight into social lives that might begin to help the social
researcher or anthropologist. By engaging with the literature on methodology, creative
methodologies, narrative styles, reflexivity, and autoethnography you should write up a reflective
assessment of Alexis’ work. This written submission will require use of appropriate academic language
and literature, which will mean including in text citations.
Just as a preemptive measure, I am sending through some details on the task the Creative Methods
Assessment Task.So as to be clear in this exercise, I want to say that it is an academic written piece,
in the style of an essay. This means that it is not in the style of a heavily reflexive written piece. You
can still of course flag reflexive engagement with it, but with lesser detail, as ultimately this is a
critical discussion paper/essay in which will use academic literature and course themes to guide the
reflection on creativity, creative methodologies and creative methods.Be mindful of including large
chunks of the Sherman Alexie text in your word count as this is a missed opportunity to develop your
own critical voice as a researcher and academic. Please be sure to refer to the marking criteria
attached as this is an excellent guide for how you might shape this submission.I have also uploaded
two outstanding examples of this assessment task from prior years –these documents are now
uploaded. These should inspire you somewhat in terms of how to approach the task
