Your essay must relate to the criminal justice system of England and Wales. Please choose one essay title from the selection below:
1. Critically assess the common and separate goals and functions of the police, the courts, probation and prisons.
2. Evaluate how theoretical models of criminal justice contribute to our understanding of the criminal justice system.
3. Choosing from one of the following, the police service, the probation service or the prison service, discuss how changes in policy and legislation have altered its functions over the last 25 years.
4. Based on evidence, evaluate whether the youth justice system is focused on the rehabilitation or punishment of young offenders.
5. Evaluate the major changes the following three pieces of legislation made to the criminal justice system: The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the Criminal Justice Act 2003 and the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012.
6. Critically assess whether there is currently evidence of discrimination at various points in the criminal justice process on the basis of gender and / or ethnicity.
