Order Description
The practice skills sessions are designed to introduce you to the learning process of critical self?reflection in your social
work practice. You will submit two critically self?reflective journals (approximately 1000 words )
based around engaging with the content and readings for two different practice skills sessions. The critically self?reflective
journals are not a summary of the session or the issue, but a personal process of deconstructing and then reconstructing
your specific experience of the session or issue and identifying areas of potential change. Further information will be made
available to you during the first practice skills session regarding critical self?reflection and these two journals.
Assessment criteria (for each journal):
1. Provide a summary and understanding of the issue to be reflected on (5).
2. Articulate a beginning position on this issue, and evidence of an understanding of own social location which lead to this
beginning position, including where various assumptions and values have originated from (5).
3. Include reflection on new learning (from lectures, reading, workshops) as it relates to this issue (5).
4. Presented a new or developed position on this issue after new information has been incorporated (5).
5. Professional presentation (i.e spelling, grammar) (5)
This assessment will assess the following learning outcomes:
Describe and practice essential elements of good communication
Identify, describe and demonstrate a greater understanding and application of critical reflection
