you will assume the role of analyst for an investment firm that specializes in giving advice about sustainable/socially responsible investing.  Your assignment is to select a company and prepare a 10 page long (12, double space) for your firm’s clients about the company’s sustainability/CSR program in order to assist them in deciding whether or not to invest in the company.

As a team, you have discretion to analyze the company’s CSR program in the way you deem most useful for your firm’s clients, to facilitate their decision about whether to invest in the company.  Hence, the approach you follow might well depend on the company and your findings.  Do not accept the company’s own representations at face value, but rather conduct your own due diligence in evaluating its sustainability/CSR program.

The following generic format is offered as a general guide about the type of information that you may wish to present to the clients (i.e., you are free to follow or deviate from it, as you deem appropriate):

I. Brief introductory information about the selected company, such as  financial information, key products/services, competitors, and relevant legal/regulatory issues, particularly insofar as they to the company’s sustainability/CSR program.

II. Stakeholder and social issues information, such as identification of particular issues of interest to stakeholders and/or the general public that may have a bearing from a sustainability/CSR standpoint.

III. Specific salient examples of the company’s sustainability/CSR program.

IV. Evaluation of the company’s sustainability/CSR program, including highlights of its positive and negative aspects.

Your overall conclusion regarding whether your firm’s clients should invest in the company based on sustainability/CSR considerations.
